The regular monthly meeting of the Mahoning Township Supervisors was held this evening at the Township Municipal Building at 4:30 PM.

 

Members of the Board present:

            Christine DeLong, Chairperson

            Ron Miller, Vice-Chairman

            William Earlston, Supervisor

Also attending was:                                                      

Rick Shoch, Solicitor                Dave Barron                                        

Wayne Myers                           Robert Stoneback, Daily Item  

           

Executive sessions were held Wednesday, August 10, 2011 10:00 AM for personnel matters and this morning after workshop for a legal matter.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT

Bob Lenig mentioned that the township has numerous problems with grass and weeds especially at the Georges property on the corner of Kaseville and Bloom Road.  He was told Mr. VonBlohn covered this at workshop and has been working on many properties for clean up.

 

MINUTES & TREASURER’S REPORT:  Minutes of the previous meeting of July 18, 2011 were approved with no alterations or corrections, motion Mr. Miller, second Mr. Earlston.  Treasurer’s Report for the month of July 2011 was accepted by motion of Mr. Miller, second Mr. Earlston.

 

DEPARTMENT REPORTS

SOLICITORBARSH:  The Board by motion of Mr. Miller, second Mr. Earlston granted general authority to the solicitor and the Zoning Officer to move forward on legal action for the two Barsh properties.

 

ZONING/UCC:  Mr. VonBlohn report submitted.

 

EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT:  The Board by motion of Mr. Miller, second Mr. Earlston waived the fee for this project at the soccer complex.

 

POLICE DEPARTMENT:  August monthly report submitted.

 

BOOT ORDINANCE:  At the request of the Chief the Board by motion of Mr. Miller, second Mr. Earlston instructed the solicitor to advertise for adoption at the next meeting, this ordinance based on the one obtained from Bloomsburg to stop habitual parking violators.

 

STREET DEPARTMENT:  Submitted August workshop report from this morning,

and advised that paving will begin Wednesday of this week, so as to inform the public thru the newspaper.

 

ENGINEER: August report submitted from workshop this morning, no action was required by the Board.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

2012 BUDGET:  Second set of figures distributed at workshop, still indicate at this point no tax increase will be necessary.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

EXONERATION:  Statewide Tax Recovery requests exoneration for non-residency, and approval was granted motion in favor Mr. Miller, second Mr. Earlston

 

TRICK OR TREAT:  October 31st falls on Monday this year, therefore the Board agreed to have residents Trick or Treat on Monday, October 31, 2011, dusk until 9.

 

FEE SCHEDULE PENALTY:  By motion of Mr. Miller, second Mr. Earlston, the Board approved an addition to the fee schedule providing for a penalty for not first obtaining a UCC permit.  Those in violation of not obtaining a permit before performing the work will be charge and additional 50% increase in fees or $100, whichever is greater.

 

SEDA COG LETTER:  Letter received urging the Supervisors and our municipal authority to work with those involved on the committee for regionalization of water and sewer service for the county was received, but the Board by motion of Mr. Miller, second Mr. Earlston stated they are not in favor of moving forward with this regional activity until the law suit between Danville and Mahoning is settled.

 

Mr. Miller motioned in favor of authorizing and approving the payrolls and bills for August 2011 and also to adjourn, Mr. Earlston seconded.
